Shawn and Gus Psych

Psych! [Keep Calm and] Cary Elwes guest stars in “Extradition II: The Actual Extradition Part,” premiering tonight at 10/9C!

Shawn and Gus return to Vancouver to visit their old nemesis Despereaux in prison at the felon’s request, who then uses them to escape and pull one last job before he is extradited to the United States. Only while he is out, he is framed for the murder of a Crown Attorney and now asks the guys for help clearing his name of this most recent – and frankly unseemly – charge.

Gleeku: Save me Jebus

Holy moly, Glee
Say a little prayer for you
Get over yourself*

*I think I thought I saw you try.

5 burning questions after last night’s episode

  1. Do the producers of the show ever read or understand lyrics? (FYI: Just because the word “religion” shows up does not mean it’s about religion)
  2. Couldn’t the glee club save some of their dwindling funds by letting the full time harpist go?
  3. What else should girls know to trade their bodies for?
  4. How is it that Finn gets to treat his grilled cheese sandwich like a genie, only makes selfish prayers (despite yelling at Kurt for not telling him about his pseudo-dad), and then gets to throw a loss of faith fit, without ever acknowledging his dooshiness? And wouldn’t it have been more powerful to toss the days old, been-inside-the-locker room cheesus sandwich rather than eat it?
  5. Does Shu even teach Spanish anymore?

Kick-Ass Haiku (in more ways than one)

Real superheroes
You just need optimism
and naivete

So, you wanna play?
You will get your ass kicked. Yes?
Good call, Babydoll!

Oh, child! How did you feel about Kick-Ass? I just bought and watched the Blu-ray yesterday and I am kind in love all over again. The movie pulls it together a bit better than the original comic–I think people would be very uncomfortable with the original Hit Girl storyline and, I’ll be honest, I liked how Dave got together with Katie in the movie (I like happy, sue me).

In any case, both the comic and the movie do a good job posing the central question: Would you help someone facing injustice–would you answer a call to action? Yes, the story is set amongst pretty hardcore vigilantism, violence, and vengeance but there’s more to it than Hit Girl’s use of the C-word.

There are several really interesting scenes where average people are shown turning a blind eye. Dave and Todd’s mugging stands out, but what about when Kick-Ass is run over? Or when he saves that guy from the gang and first becomes famous? What about all of those people that stood in that coffee shop watching, marveling at the action of someone else? How about the big “Kick-Ass Unveiling” webcast? They show the cops, not springing to action, but running to watch the violence on their computers. To take it down a notch, think about when Dave talks about feeling bad for Chris D’Amico. He mentions it, but he doesn’t really want to do anything about it.

Is the issue crime or complacency?

Comic Con, a harsh mistress

Oh, San Diego!
Comic Con, a harsh mistress
Me, out of the loop

If you love movies and tv and comics and gaming and celebrities and people watching, you would love Comic Con. The 2010 Con officially started today, and I’m not there, and I’m in withdrawal…in the way that each article I read on all my trusted, fellow pop culture-y blogs about events at Comic Con is like taking a tiny, poison-tipped Hellboy horn to the gut. Am I over-reacting? I mean I’ve only been to Comic Con once before (last year), right? I can read about it online anyway, right? It will all be okay…right?

No! The Con is like crack. I am Junkie numero uno. Now, kids, is crack good for junkies? I don’t care–I feel like Smeagol. We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious. They stole it from us. Sneaky little real jobses. Wicked, tricksy, false! I’m in a hate spiral; a totally geeked out, dork festival is happening at my house in an attempt to keep my mind off of all the fun I could be having just wandering the exhibitor hall, talking to and photographing some of the coolest people (or salivating all over the Scott Pilgrim Experience happening all four days of the Con). Remember how I met Antonio the Great at Comic Con last year? And how he got me into the last Lost panel that would ever be? …Good times.

Anyway, back to the aforementioned “totally geeked out, dork festival”…I’m systematically watching every (non-animated) Batman movie in existence (yes, I own them all), and it’s going to culminate with an in-home screening of Adam West’s EPIC Batman: The Movie this Saturday. I’m reading all of the Scott Pilgrim volumes (#6 is waiting on my stoop as we speak). Pat Rothfuss’ new graphic novel The Adventures of Princess and Mr. Whiffle best be en route from Amazon or I’m going to go postal, no pun intended. I’ve exclusively restricted my wardrobe to quippy Threadless T-shirts. We’re catching up on the best little web series this side of the blogosphere, The Guild. I might eat this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly when it finally arrives (until then, I have the latest issue of Empire to annihilate). I also fully intend to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up on the Wii this weekend. Oh, and speaking of old school Batman and gaming, guess what you can preview at Comic Con this week. Le sigh…

It’s sick. I might wind up blogging from a cardboard box in the near future, wearing tattered blue jeans, a wife beater, and these; talking to myself on a Star Trek “communicator” I fashioned out of discarded RealD 3D glasses, my old Motorola MegaPhone, and a Twizzler with all my Mighty Muggs in tow…”Kirk to Enterprise, five to beam up!”

So, how are things with you?

New Directionals!

Have you heard the marvelous news?! John Stamos is going to be Emma’s dental dandy on Glee next season. Sorry, Shu, but you are SOL unless this singing (yes singing!) dentist is a doosh. This is no Shu vs. Coach Ken deal. Is it just me, or does Stamos kind of look like he could be Puck’s dad?…I digress.

Spoiler Warning — rambling Glee finale thoughts after the jump…and the haiku portion of the post
