Monday Musing: Comic-Con + Junkie1= <3

We'll be chillin' like villains!

We'll be chillin' like villains! (J1 & J2 in San Diego...ZRose25 is fighting the rebels)

It’s Monday, bitches! ¡That means there are only two more days before Little Junkies heads to San Diego for the mother of all conventions: Comic-Con 2009! This is the first year “the Con” has sold out ahead of time, and it has become far more than nerd heaven since the major studios realized that geeks/nerds are the best fans around. I am pumped (if not slightly frightened) for the spectacle. Here is what I plan/hope (with J2 & contributor, ZRose25) to see while I’m there:

Thursday, July 23

-Disney: 3D Panel
Sneak peeks! Among other things, Alice In Wonderland!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tim Burton!!!!!!! And moderated by Ratatouille’s Patton Oswalt!

-Entertainment Weekly: Wonder Women: Female Power Icons in Pop Culture
Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), and Zoe Saldana (Avatar) talk about actresses and female characters that kick ass and bust glass ceilings!

-USA Network’s Psych & Showtime: Dexter
Two of my faves in a row (Psych is first)!

-Dr.  Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
A screening of a Whedon web-epic with promises of surprise visitors…perhaps! (NPH, NPH!! ::fingers crossed::)

Friday, July 24

-Meet The Guild
A chat with the creators and performers from the hit online video series The Guild and a screening of Comic-Con exclusive video of season 3 (out this fall)!

-Starz!: Spartacus: Blood and Sand
Gladiators! Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess, Battlestar Galactica) introduces star Andy Whitfield, along with actor Peter Mensah (300, Avatar) and executive producers Rob Tapert (Evil Dead 1-2, Drag Me to Hell) and Steven S. DeKnight (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Oh, yeah: regular peeps won’t be able to see this until January 2010! :p

-Marvel: Cup o’ Joe
According to the geeks, Marvel goes all out with this hush-hush, packed with surprises panel. I’m in like sin! (Hugh Jackman, please!?!)

-Sony Pictures Entertainment: Legion and District 9 (Major ::fingers crossed:: situation)
Comic-Con exclusive sneak peeks at two promising pics, and Peter Jackson (who is attending “the Con” for the first time, too)!

-Joss Whedon (Hopefully)
We’ll miss the Dollhouse panel, but Joss is hanging out afterward for 45 minutes of information and Q&A about his upcoming Dark Horse Comics projects!

& maybe even a live Rifftrax if we can make it!

Saturday, July 25

-Lost:  The Final Season Begins
The rumor mill is on overdrive for the action packed panel, since this will be the prolific show’s last appearance at Comic-Con ::bittersweetness:: I’ll try not to kidnap Josh Holloway (no promises, though).

-Miramax: Extract
A chat with Mike Judge (Office Space) and his cast about his new film Extract (plus a sneak peek)! That means Jason Bateman (Arrested Development), Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), and Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live)!!!

-Sony Pictures: Zombieland and 2012
Sony Pictures previews their two new movies, and Junkie1 nearly bursts with possibility of John Cusack sighting! Plus, Zombies!

-True Blood Panel and Q&A
I just died! The entire cast?!!! Vamp-y goodness comin’ my way.

Sunday, July 26

It’s “Kids Day” (boo) so not a ton of stuff going but here’s the plan:
-Overture Pictures: Paper Heart
Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera takes us on a magical indie love tour of their new film that’s part documentary, improvisation, and romance. Cute!

-Buffy the Musical
Fandom Charities Inc. and present a screening of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode “Once More With Feeling” as Comic-Con 2009’s big closing event! I expect dancing in the streets (or aisles, more likely). Wee!

Oh yeah, I’ll be documenting the Comic-Con insanity with my camera, so expect to see some brilliance via photo (Wookies, Warloards, and Starfleet Commanders: Come to mama!)! I am also excited for free swag and random, idiotic purchases! Wasting moneyBolstering this troubled economy!

  3. […] must say, I was so stoked when I set out the Comic-Con 2009 schedule and perfectly plotted all of the things I was going to see there. But as things tend to work out, that plan didn’t happen. Fortunately, I packed my rose […]
